Brush the sand off your feet and come on in because I can’t wait to show you around our lovely home! If you had the chance to read my About Me page then you know how exited my husband and I were about purchasing our first home! After looking at a ton of homes in lovely neighborhoods of Erie Pennsylvania, we fell in love with our home as soon as we saw it. To find this style of home up north was unusual and unexpected, but we feel blessed to live here. We can't wait to show you around and the initial photos of where the house started and how we worked to bring the shore inside. So again welcome to our home and we hope that you love it as much as we do. Please remember that this is a work in progress and I will update the blog with pictures as our DIY projects continue!
Since this is our first home we have a lot of work to do, but don't worry we’re so excited to do it (well at least I am (can’t really say my husband feels the same but he will come around). So let’s get this home tour started. Our home was built back in 1991 with the unique feature of offering 2 verandas that extend upon the front sections of both the main and second stories of the house. It is located on quaint cul-de-sac on the outskirts of the small city. The main floor of our house consists of a Family Room, Kitchen, Dining Room (aka Playroom), Living Room, and Powder Room, and attached 2 Car Garage/Storage.
The second floor of our house consists of 1 Master Bedroom/Bath/Laundry, 3 Bedrooms, and a Large Family Bathroom. The Master Bedroom and Larger Guest Room (as of right now) both have doors that access the second story veranda. We are very lucky (at least we feel we are) to have the convenience of having our laundry room as part of our master bath. This is such a convenience to us as it allows less traveling between multiple floors to distribute the cleaned goods!
On to the lower section of the house, the basement. Back in the second year of home ownership we had a slight problem when our sump pump failed to work and our basement flooded. Because of this we prematuraly removed portions of the finished sections (carpet and one wall) in hope of improving the space and making it feel like the perfect “Man’s Cave”. Yes that's right, as part of the deal in buying the house my husband wanted his own personal space dedicated to sports watching, beer drinking, and game playing (Esentially no wives allowed, or so he thinks!). I would say that this is the section of the house that needs the most attention as we are essentally starting with a blank canvas. We can’t wait to share our journey with everyone in making this the perfect “Man Cave”, even if it's a very very slow process!
Now on to the fun part of the Tour, all the sweat equity and outcomes of our very own DIY projects! Below are some of the finer details associated to the before and after (most likely current as things will continously change and evolve!). If available look for a link to a blog post that may outline a detialed section of the DIY project shown in the photograh. Please remember with such busy work schedules and family life we may just be in the beginning portions of our renovations, but at least we have a start on a few things. We are in no way interior designers and might not be up to the latest trends, but we hope to find comfort and personal style throughout the process. Please feel free to take ideas and make suggestions as we are always open for some free advice! If you notice anything that you would like to hear alittle more about please leave acomment below I will be sure to answer it as soon as possible, maybe I’ll even address it in a future blog post!
